Welcome

I have had another brush with cancer during the past year, but, like the song says, I will “pull myself up, brush myself down, and start all over again.” What better way to do that than by reinventing myself and my yoga site all over again?

So this is Brenda Brain, a fully qualified Yoga Therapist, and now accredited by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council telling you how she can now help you.

This time I shall concentrate on one-to-one yoga tuition and help (hence the new website name “Yoga just for You”). You, and your special difficulty/illness will be the focus of my attention. Or it may be that you need a few confidence-building sessions with me before you join a regular class.

I aim to give all who come to me for help suitable exercises, but I also want you as individuals to achieve a balance of mind, body and spirit. The Yoga Sage, Patanjali, has been known as the Father of Yoga (and he may actually have been several people); he (or they) lived somewhere between 5,000 B.C. and 300 A.D. And left us the Sutras (threads of meaning) to guide us, the Yoga way, into turning a seemingly limited physical mental and emotional person into one who can cope with life in a harmonised, illumined way.

I do not claim to be able to “cure” any illness, disease, or troubled state of mind, but I do think I can help you to cope with these things.

So “my” Yoga is not only exercise : it aims for the balance of mind, body and spirit; “to tame the wild horses of the mind”, as Patanjali said, because sometimes, in the strain of coping with our ills, mental or physical, we forget that we hold the reins and can do this.

In my Yoga sessions, whether for individuals or groups, relaxation, breathing techniques and learning to meditate play as big a part as the asanas (exercises). But of course I will teach you gentle Yoga stretches leading into classic postures – done mindfully and related to your individual needs. Each session always ends with a ten-minute period of relaxation or meditation.

This way I hope that anyone who comes to me can choose and develop what is best for them in their personal practice.
