FACING BOTH WAYS!

That is what Janus, the January God does.  We must still look to the winter, expect those frosty mornings and chilly nights, but now and then the sun finds a path through the clouds and reminds us that Spring is on its way..

I was never an athletic, games sort of person, but when I was quite young my Dad did up an old Hercules bike for me.  He gave that task all his loving care and skill.  And despite my bike having no gears at all, it became my very good friend.  I rode the two or three miles up the High Street to the Secondary Grammar School in the mornings, back at lunch-time for family lunch, and then a repetition for afternoon school and back for tea.

Later, I rode round the country lanes with my friend, Pat, and we even tested our skill by riding from Lowestoft to Cambridge one weekend with one overnight stay at a Youth Hostel. and one with my Aunt in Haverhill.  That was a Great Adventure : we marvelled at all the students' bikes in Cambridge.  Then, it did not enter my mind that much later in my life I would come to live in Cambridgeshire!

But lots of things happen in each lifetime, and we cannot predict what they will be.  Like Janus, we must be prepared to face both ways, and take whatever comes to us in good spirit.

Spring is on its way;  amid the frowns from looking back, give a smile or two for the future!

A belated Happy New Year to all of you,  today is what matters, but look to the future with a good heart.  Who knows what it may brng to you?
